In the News – 1967 Mazda Cosmo Sport 110S

On May 30, 1967, Mazda began its legacy of innovation, bringing to marked it first Wankel rotary engine and first sports car. The rotary was in an engine design that many had tried to build for production, but only Mazda could make it viable – because it had to. In the 1960s the Japanese automotive industry was on the cusp of globalization, Mazda needed to harness a technology that would differentiate it in the marketplace to avoid consolidation. Upon licensing the Wankel rotary in 1961 from German firms NSU and Wankel GmbH, Mazda went to work, with its best and brightest engineers tasked with bringing the technology to market.

With the launch of the Cosmo Sport 110S – Mazda found solutions for the considerable issues that had plagued the rotary, from internal scoring to loss of compression. As lore has it, Yamamoto had used graphite as a lubricant on apex seals after noticing how easily his pencil slid across his sketches. From there, the Cosmo Sport would kick off the legacy of successes, from sales to circuits, with the Cosmo unseating some of the best sports cars of the day.

This particular 1967 Cosmo Sport 1110S L10A (short wheelbase) was one of possibly three 1967 Cosmos that were officially exported to the U.S. This one was registered to Curtiss-Wright Corporation, the North American right-holder of the Wankel rotary engine for aerospace development application research. I subsequently changed hands three more time before coming back “home” to Mazda. The odometer reading is original and correct at a little over 16,000 km.

This car is owned by Mazda North American Operations as part of the Mazda Heritage Collection.

Q:     Can anyone tell me how to disable daytime running lights on a 2019 Mazda CX-5? According to the owner’s manual it’s possible, but one page just refers me back to the other. Their manuals are awful!

Don Turner

A:     I found this from another thread and thought this would be very useful on the how-to forum for people who want to disable their DRL.

HERE’S HOW TO DO IT::

SETUP:

1) car set to ignition (car is active, but engine is off)

2) press brake pedal down and hold during the whole time

3) parking brake up

START:

you have to do the whole process once you start under 23 sec.

4) turn parking light on and off 5 times. on – off – on – off – on – off , etc.

under 2 sec start #5

5) turn hazard light on and off 5 times.

under 2 sec start #6

6) turn parking light on and off 5 times.

DONE:

7) to check if the DRL still comes on, simply disengage the parking brake. If it doesn’t come on, then you’re done. Otherwise repeat the process again.

Repeat same step to reactivate

2020 Mazda CX-30

from Car & Driver

Slotting into the Mazda SUV lineup in the narrow space between the subcompact CX-3 and the compact CX-5 is the new—and curiously named—CX-30. Why isn’t it called CX-4? We asked Mazda: It’s kind of a long story. Regardless, we like the way it looks. Mazda’s designers gave it a more severely forward-canted rear window and chunkier black-plastic body cladding to help differentiate the 2020 Mazda CX-30 from its other crossover siblings. The CX-30 comes standard with impressive technology, both in terms of connectivity and driver-assistance features. Equipped with the perky and responsive engine seen in the Mazda 3, the CX-30 suggests it’ll ooze with that enthusiast appeal for which Mazda is famous. Are you looking for new vehicles such as this mazda cx30 for sale and want to learn more about this? Read on to know more.

All CX-30s are equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 186 horsepower and up to 186 lb-ft of torque; it’s the same engine in the 2020 Mazda 3. A six-speed automatic is the only transmission available on the CX-30.

An infotainment display sprouts from the center of the dashboard and is controlled by a rotary knob on the center console; a row of climate-control buttons divide the upper and lower dash panels. This is a good choice for business owners looking to expand their sales department with vehicles. A fleet management system are front and rear-facing cameras that can provide a 360-degree view complete with high-quality video and night vision. The ability to see what really happened can help you save time and money, protect your drivers, maximize efficiency, provide better customer service, and gain peace of mind. Buyers will be able to choose between either an eight- or 12-speaker audio system and can upgrade to available heated front seats. Have you been injured in car accident? 2000 MX-5 Miata LS of Laura Byrd

This 2000 MX-5 LS was purchased in 2003, from a BMW dealership in San Diego. She has lived an interesting life, and was shipped to Italy in 2011 to be used as my press vehicle. She lived in Italy for three years, and was driven up and down the Amalfi Coast many times after i got it from the shop, if you want reliable service check out http://shop.berglundcars.com/. I was a contributor at Vintage Motorsport Magazine, and drove her all over Italy to cover vintage races. I repainted her in Italy, and shipped her back to the USA when I returned in 2014. You can visit https://www.autozin.com when you want to rent a car, buy or sell, their cars are carefully selected from their rental fleet, and have undergone complete scheduled maintenance to ensure longevity, for years to come.

Her leather seats and soft top have both been replaced in black, from the original tan. She also has a tow kit installed, and in 2003, the first year I owned her, towed my 100-year Harley Davidson Sportster to Las Vegas for the HD 100-year celebration. I used a T-back trailer outfitted with matching chrome wheels, and she was the star at the HD dealership in Vegas. She now lives on Camp Pendleton Marine Corp base in Southern California, and is driven very little. Total original mileage is 107,000.

Q:     Anyone have an idea of how long a garage kept convertible top will last before replacement? I have a 2003 Miata. What would be the cost to replace?

Doug

Q:     I think a well cared for vinyl top should last 10+ years. It really depends upon how often you clean and treat it, and how long it sits under the sun, rain, hail.

I’ve never had a canvas top, but my understanding is that they are more difficult to keep clean and looking good.

To answer your cost question. A new Robbins vinyl top with rain rail will set you back close to $600, but there are many cheaper options, starting from around $175 for an eBay top.
